Interactive Guest Speaker session by Husham yousufi, General Manager at AL-karam textile (Pvt.)

On 8th of July, 2017, the class of leadership held a guest speaking session. Introducing Mr. Husham Yousufi, General Manager  Marketing & Sales at Al-Karam textiles Mills (Pvt.), as the guest speaker to throw light on the dynamics of leadership & what struggle one needs to do to become a leader.

Mr. Yousufi, had an interactive session, by answering the bundle of queries that young minds were going through to bring the best of knowledge within them.

With his charismatic personality he started the session with full of spirits letting students know about his struggle to become what he is today.

He first started with his academic career & later he explained about his vast experiences that took him 17 years to become what he is today. Starting his career with Mohammad Farooqe textile mill limited (MFTML) in the year 2000 & than moving on  towards more opportunities like Al-Abid mills Ltd. as merchandiser, In Gul-Ahmed as General Manager (GM) marketing (Europe) than to Sapphire & finally as GM marketing & Sales (America) in Al-Karam textiles (Pvt.) He also mentioned the major difference the two country had in production but it gave a super boost to his experiental learning.

Speaking of what an ideal person should have to become a leader, he also mentioned about the articulate & adaptive leadership: Mr. Yousufi highlighted the below mentioned elements that the leaders should work on:-
  •           The first step is to understand what vision is which is strongly interlinked with the leaders purpose. In our culture a leaders vision is a statement regarding where he will take his followers to. Being submissive within the field is also very important. He talked about that being hyper in the field does not work in fact one should have patience & eager to learn with a strong purpose of life. He also mentioned about the values that an individual possess on which the purpose depends citing the interconnection between both the values & the purpose.
  •       The second step is to create a process for identifying and articulating a vision. Communicating, taking one’s opinion as well as feedback is when a leader articulate within the general body from different people of various cultures in the process of decision making helps the leader to socialize and become one if the general person to understand what his people are going through cannot just help in building trust but also satisfaction.
  •       Building team with or within normal people eat with them, listen to them & understand them gone are the days where leaders were superior now they are the backbone of every person. He gave example of eating food with labor.
  •       Being Adaptive & Improvising flexibility within self & start the thought process of being self-analysis is the crux of leadership. It is the framework that helps individuals and organizations adapt and thrive in challenging environments. It gives a balcony view of the situation & takes the decision in his hands & this person is intend to be the leader. It is one of the crucial task that needs to be adopted to become an experiential person
  •       Mr. Yousufi also talks about Encouragement, he says that one should have a quality to listen to others and motivate them to become a good and successful person.
  •        He also talked about the concern of Change management, it is the approach to prepare and support individuals, teams, and organizations in making a change. It is also the important factor that should be accepted with grace and that’s what he meant when he talked about adaptability or being adaptive to accept things beyond your expectations and do everything that you think you can’t do it. The world is changing and so every individual needs to adjust within those parameters of change. It is believed that every leader in his initial stage, is liable to bring change & the followers should embrace them.
Towards the end of the session Mr. Yousufi talked about the qualities he embraced within a span of his experiential learning keeping Quaid-e-Azam as the role model he asked everyone to embrace honestly, give values, always keep smiling, help people in the need and most importantly try to build the habit of listening as he says ‘I listen to the person till his last breath.’

With the best of understanding on what leadership & adaptive leadership is all about, we bid farewell to Mr. Husham yousufi from a leadership class held at IoBM with a note of appreciation for joining us & sharing his insightful experience with students which will help them in the practical & professional life.

His examples were very much relate able as we are climbing up the ladder of our career things are coming in the very same way he had explained.

It is leadership aura we need to adapt and implement which could help in overcoming various challenges.
One thing I would like to point out was that, he had been through hands on experience of the textile industry while being in the production department, and that is where his excellence and capabilities would have developed in this field.
I belief it is very necessary for an individual to have an experience of the ground work to reach the skies.

  4. It was an amazing opportunity to get to hear to this gentleman. I took away alot of life lessons such as never stop believing in yourself and the team building and people skill that Mr Husham taught was very much eye opening that is how even on the junior position he was able to make his team commit for the goals that he believed in. Not only that, i learmed that how important it is to build your team and learn to care for the people. The lesson of humbleness taught by Mr husham showed how actually true leaders are. For example the fact that he used to sit down and do lunch with the labor class and tried to understand their difficulties and problems. The most valuable thing that i learned from him was that it is extremely important to be submissive in a corporate environment and listen to everyone. Upon asking a question on submissiveness and aggressiveness, he beautifully explained the idea and convinced me over the significance of being humble and down to earth. I wish and hope to interact with him again and get the chance to listen him. Very motivating indeed!

  6. The session was not only informative and engaging but also very relate able. There were multiple topics on which he shared his experiences with but there was one particular subject which grabbed my attention. Flexibility. The insight he gave while speaking was that flexibility matters the most and as I am also a part of this corporate world now and have been facing different challenges in routine tasks as well as projects, I totally agree with the point that flexibility is very important. A mandatory aspect to have when a person aims to grow and groom himself Or herself.
Also, the fact that being humble and down to earth gets you too many rewards and loyalty of your people. This I have experienced myself. Bring kind to a person who has nothing to give you but his service cab do wonders when it comes to performing well.
The session over all was quite interesting and motivating.
Kudos to the team who called him in and special thanks to Sir Shiraz who let this session happen!

  12. The session by Mr. Yousufi was inspirational. It taught us how flexibility is very important which our generation extremely lacks. We need to be adaptive to our surroundings or we will never be able to excel. He said that we all need to develop the habit of listening to others. Humbleness and modesty were other traits which he showed. He has travelled the world and even then remembers his roots and has not forgotten the struggle he went through to get to this position.

This will not only help in moving forward more strategically but also give opportunities of learning from different groups in the organization. It is important to know when to leave for something better, and to judge the best time to move on, one has to be in full control of his/her deciaions. His lecture gave an insight to some of his own learning and how he established hia carreer to reach where he he is today.

  14. It was indeed a very informative session by Mr. Husham Yousufi. One of the most important thing that I learned from the session was to remain flexible and down to earth no matter what the situation a person faces. The example that Mr Yousufi gave about the way he politely interacted with his labor and how much he liked to listen to every person was very inspiring. Also his struggle from the very start of his career was a key learning of how a person must adapt to different situations in life. A very essential point that he emphasized on was the way trust, values and credibility is crucial and a person should always be submissive.

  18. The session was a complete eye opener.

Being an entry level manager myself I had so much to relate to with the speaker. His decision to diversify in his field and gain ground level to top level experience eventually helped him grow rapidly. And this lesson is worth to remember.
