An Inspirational Session with Syed M Ali, Enterprise Account Manager at Abbott Lab Pak Ltd.

The inspirational Mr. Syed Muhammad Ali bestowed the leadership class on 15 July,2017 at IoBM with his presence by holding an engaging session with the students that touched upon the key learnings from his extensive corporate experience.

Starting his career in 2000 with Abbott, Mr. Ali has tested his merit in a variety of roles in the organization and emerged triumphant with several challenges that he has taken during the tenure of his celebrated career.

Thus, today he is leading to 5 Asian countries with his 17 years of  great experience within this organization. Discussing the concept of ethics in leadership, the speaker also shed light on the fundamental significance of family as an institution for internalizing values along with Blue Ocean Leadership (BOL).

Mr. Ali spoke, on the purpose of life he asked the divine new soul to think about what is the ‘’Aha’’ (according to him) moment of your life. Explaining his purpose to be here is to give all of us an idea that don’t just follow the footsteps of what you are told but focus, lean, learn & than give it back.

On the purpose of life he quoted a strong example of Erik Weihenmayer who is the first blind person to climb Mount Everest in 2001, making his aim, the purpose of his life & without any second thoughts this person broke the records.

Good leaders always have a good memory, they always remember you with your name, subject and field, if you really want to be good leader impress you’ve to have good memory, remember them by interaction, make sure to catch them, learn something from them, giving them back this is how world goes on, life goes on as a leader we all need to do this, not just going school and spend time.

Taking all the available space & interacting with young minds making them think about themselves Mr. Ali also talked about Blue Ocean Leadership in which he explained the key diagram that is to Eliminate, Raise, Reduce & create. Also, to do things beyond your expectations.’

Adding that the best quality that describe leader is using word “we” instead of “I” as a good leader take blame of your fellow member not their credit. Make yourself aware about your strength and weakness do self-assessment on daily basis.

Keeping an insight on BOL, He then advised everyone to “Grab the Opportunity before it’s too late,” & that’s where the Responsibility plays a vital role. He also mentioned that time is money just don’t waste it on fiction in fact make the 100% positive out of it.

Later, Mr. Ali focussed more on the mistakes that the aspiring, leaders do that is thinking that I am write always & not seeking any sort of interaction.

Talking about the major mistakes that one can do like Repeating the Same Mistakes, Being Inflexible, Failing to Acknowledge Others, Always commanding & most importantly Failing to Listen.
Giving his own example that there are humanly error too but it does not mean life ends here but it’s another first step of your new journey. Learn from the mistakes & develop a new strategy to cope within that too. He mentioned to be a leader you must interact & importantly develop habit of listening till the last breath of the speaker.

He ended the session with a strong Quote by Bill Gates, “If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, But if you die poor it’s your mistake.” we bid farewell to Mr. Ali in hopes that we will be able to absorb bits and pieces of what he tried to convey.

  1. Through this session I learnt that the energy and potential we use to make our products innovative in companies should be used on ourselves too. Blue ocean strategy is an approach that tells us that how can we raise reduce or create
our activities to become a better leader.

  2. Through this interactive session I got to learn a lot about Blue Ocean strategy which is an emerging concept these days. Mr. Ali emphasized on the fact that an individual should try to discover his ''usp" or should know that what makes him different or unique from others as in this way one can remain competent in ever changing environment of business. Also he tried to teach one important lesson that one should always learn from his mistakes and take every criticism positively. According to him nothing is impossible in the life if one has a will to do anything, he then can achieve any goal via hard work, and here he quoted an example of Erik Weihenmayer. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience to attend this session.

  3. Mr. Ali conducted a very interactive session, breaking the topics down with examples we would grasp onto very firmly. Like defining what to do when an opportunity come knocking on the door, he was brilliant enough to give the example of spiderman amd how he embraced his opportunity for the better. Mr. Ali, also talked about blue ocean leadership and the opportunitites leaders should create for their followers and employees. This is because a leader can also fail, but what makes the leader get back up is the true essence of being a successful leader.

  6. The session by Mr Ali was very inspiring as he emphasized the students to learn from the experience of others. Also he gave the example of "spiderman learning" which is to grab the opportunity and learn from it.
One of the very key learning from the session was to consider yourself as a product and then make the competition irrelevant around you which is the Blue Ocean Leadership which is to create, raise, eliminate and reduce anything in yourself by imagining yourself as a product.
Mr.Ali also instructed the students to follow their passion by thinking where you are and where you want to be by utilizing the time in achieving the target.

  7. The sessions got interesting when he talked about implementing blue ocean study on our own selves. I never though this could be the implementation of such study. But if you come to think of it, applying it on our owns elves and coming up with those things that we should eliminate from our personality and should create for betterment can do wonders in our own growth and grooming. This caught my attention and I have already started thinking about it.
Moreover, that particular AHA moment in life to be found is now an interesting approach. I am now thinking of those moments that I've lived and those that are yet to come in order to find that bone moment that might have or might will change the purpose of my life.
All in all, it was a very interesting session. Thank you to the team for bringing in yet again an interesting personality to the class.

  8. The session was quite motivational and I got to learn alot of things from this session. One very important aspect which I which I learnt from Mr Ali's session was that one should always try to learn from the experience of others. He used various examples of different movies which was a very interesting part of the session. For example the Spider-Man. He got the opportunity and he grabbed that opportunity. We should learn from this example and we should always try to make full use of the opportunity at hand. Moreover, he discussed about the Blue Ocean Strategy which is a very important topic. What i learned from the discussion was that we should know about our differentiation. One can only make his or her competition irrelevant if he or she is able to differentiate from them hence differentiation is very important. The other very important thing which I learnt from the session was that we should be able to discover our 'Aha' moment- the moment where we are happy and satisfied with what we are doing and we should be able to achieve that moment. Finally, the most important thing learnt from the session was that nothing is impossible.
