Leadership Development leads to increased Employee Engagement

The Gallup Organization recently released new data that shows that one third of the employees are engaged in their workplace whereas, two third of them are either not engaged or actively disengaged. Majority of the workforce is simply marking time until the end of the work day; they’re probably doing just enough to not get fired.

What this low employee engagement indicates? A research by Harris interactive says that only 37% of employees understood what their employer was trying to achieve and why i-e they are unclear of their vision, goals, strategies and market realities. Moreover, the bad behavior and poor performance go unchallenged and they feel unappreciated when their effort is taken for granted. This shows lack of an effective leadership.

Research conducted by IBT Karachi also suggested there is significant impact of competent management on employee engagement. It shows that in order to enhance employee engagement, it is important for managers to display competent behaviors such as giving feedback on proper time, praise and recognition.
Employee engagement requires leaders who can help cascade the vision and inspire others by allowing two way communications, clear business goals and ensuring the right people in the right positions where their skills are best utilized.

Reconnecting people to their purposes and bringing sense of trust and openness can lead to some real breakthroughs in communication and organizational progress. This efficiency of leadership will thus bring in various productive outputs as a result of high employee engagement.
