IOBM’s experiential learning agenda set for 2015 MBA program is definitely progressing by leaps and bounds. Adding further to the cause, another invaluable guest speaking session was held which was conducted by Prof. Dr. Irfan Hyder , Dean CBM and CES at IOBM, for the class “Transformational and Ethical Leadership”, facilitated by Mr. Shiraz Ahmed. The topic of the lecture was “Ethical Leadership”. While students were being called for attendance, Dr. Irfan Hyder was planning on what and how to speak on “Ethical Leadership”. It took him only seven minutes. The lecture, hence started, as a small talk. “Ek ha Ghalib, Aur ek ha Iqbal” and the lecture started with these words. For me these words were the initials (topic) of the lecture. As a keen listener and observer, I knew it instantly that this lecture is going to be insightful and fun. Guest talk by Dr. Irfan Hyder on Why Leaders fail.
The Dean of IoBM, Dr. Irfan Hyder, joined the leadership class, at IoBM, to shed light on the concept of leadership, its importance and under what circumstances does it fail. He said that Universities that were founded in the 1900s were all focused on how they can develop better business administrators, yet until 2000 it was realized that the Leaders are what actually drive the future of the organizations and corporations. Hence, Leadership schools started to come into being in Pakistan. Leaders vary in types and functionality, some are transactional, some are transformational but if they lack something, they may fail. So why do leaders fail? Its often due to the Time dimensions they use. It is said that there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. Its integral that a leader proposes an idea that needs to be crystallized in the right time. The time dimension matters, else the idea may go useless. The Rituals they perform must retain behind a legacy....
