6 Basic Mistakes in Resume
In my
career of so many years, I have come across all sorts of resumes, some were
very good and some were just terrible. And I have figured that somehow people
take resumes very casually neglecting the fact that it reflects their work and
professionalism. Here are a few mistakes in resumes that I have witnessed so
far.
Format
A Resume
must be very precisely written. Professionally there is NO need to
use color paper, only white paper is preferable. While writing your resume, be
careful about the length and typing errors. If you have an experience of one
year or so, then a page is enough but if your experience is of more than 10
years then approximately 2 pages are enough for a resume.
Also I've
witnessed email addresses of people saying 'Please let us know on this
address', that is not how an organization informs about the confirmation of
your job. Please refrain from writing your email especially the ones
like: coolboyz1995@live.com or papasprincess89@gmail.com.
They highly reflect immaturity.
Make sure your education, experience, certifications, fellowships and related should be well highlighted within your resume. They should be displayed in an eye catching manner because they are what the interviewer would be more interested in. This helps in giving a good impression to the interviewer.
Photographs
Honestly,
a recruiter never demands photographs because they do not hire any employee on
the basis of their appearances. I have come across resumes having photographs
that even include selfies, pictures on the beach and some even include pictures
with an immense amount of makeup. This is highly unprofessional.
Personal
Information
Personal
information which includes weight, height and description of your appearance is
however not needed unless they have asked for it. There must not be any
political or cultural support mentioned as the recruiters are not interested in
this information.
A "Career Objective"
Its
important that the career objective is just explained in 1 or 2 lines for
remember "Less is more".It should also not be copy pasted and should
just explain your real goals.
References
References
must not be written, unless the organization itself asks for it. It completely
ruins the image of the applicant. It makes me Laugh when people write in resume
'Reference will be furnished upon request'. Please do not write these types of
sentences.
Humor
and Lies:
Its best
if you do not lie or show humor in your Resume. Humor will suit your
personality but not your resume as it is a serious affair. So try and avoid
humor on your resume too for it may end up in a Rejection!
